The Quality Controller has the responsibility of ensuring that the service or repairs performed on every vehicle satisfy the reason(s) the vehicle was brought in to the Service Department and that the services were completed in a quality, workmanlike manner.
• Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the function and operation of the various mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems found on the vehicles that the Service Department normally works on
• Inspect and, as necessary, test drive every vehicle on which repairs are performed including, but not limited to:
• Vehicles on which major repairs were performed
• Vehicles with a high comeback risk such as those with drivability and alignment problems
• All comeback vehicles
• Other vehicles specifically identified by management
• Return those vehicles failing the quality control inspection to the Technician who performed the work
• Provide the servicing Technician an accurate description of the reason(s) for returning the vehicle to them
• Maintain a record of the vehicles checked and the result of those inspections as directed by management
• Advise management regarding Technician job performance, training needs and other specific areas as requested by management
• On a monthly basis, review each department manager's performance versus objectives and specifically determine the reasons for both good and bad performance
• Consult with departmental managers who fail to meet their objectives and assist them in creating and implementing plans for improvement
