Lead Operator

Purpose of the job

Under the general direction of the Operations Leader or Associate Production Manager the Lead Technician will operate assigned equipment or areas of the Plant as needed. Role is expected to run equipment. In partnership with Technical Advisor and Run Plant Engineer make sure the work team and equipment are performing at desired expectations as they relate to safety quality and productivity. Utilize operation knowledge and experiences to provide technical and mechanical problem solving to optimize runtime and productivity. This position does not have responsibility to manage individual performance or employee development except where indicated per department. The role is expected to elevate performance issues to the Operations LeaderAssociate Production Manager. The incumbent is expected to intervene with peers with regard to safety quality and productivity.




Primary Responsibilities

With guidance from the Operations Leader and Run Plant Engineer assure completion of day to day operating tasks to achieve production results for assigned work group and provide work team leadership for as many as 15 to 20 operators both Dow employees and contingent workers.

Accountable for maximized productivity and yield in assigned shift and cell for the overall business success

Writes Safe Work Permits following all requirements and expectations of the Safe Work Permits Issuer

Responsible to lead start of shift data review and complete a successfully exchange or handoff with previous shift

Lead or delegate team Safety Task Analysis card completion

Lead or delegate housekeeping efforts per department expectations

Utilizes “Statistical Process Control” tools to optimize plant operation and provide feedback on the effectiveness of the Statistical Process Control tools.

Understand the operation all equipment as incumbent will be sought out by others on the shift for recommendation andor training.




This role is expected to run assigned equipment daily especially as needed for break relief and absent coverage

The Lead Technician is expected to provide coveragebackup to Lead Technician peers when absent or otherwise indisposed

Monitor troubleshoot and adjust equipment based on work process data within known boundaries.

Perform routine and nonroutine complex maintenance on equipment refer complex mechanical problems to a Maintenance Technician. Act as a final Gate troubleshooter prior to escalating need to the Tech Advisor or Maintenance group

Elevate chronic equipment issues and opportunities to the Technical Advisor Operations LeaderAssociate Production Manager and dedicated Maintenance Tech appropriately.





Skills


Coach technician work group to enhance troubleshooting skills with regard to assigned equipment.

Ensure new work processes as well as new work standards or communicated and understood.

Provide coaching where clarification or additional training is needed.

Accountable to confirm and signoff on the successful completion of InPlantTraining both the initial and recertification.

Follow Operating Discipline principles procedures and practices to ensure safe and efficient operation of assigned plant areas.

Operate and field check process equipment. Monitor process conditions equipment and control systems.

Monitor collect and input plant metrics for Statistical Process Control Identify opportunities and implement improvements for plant optimization.

Utilizes Statistical Process Control tools to optimize plant operation and provide feedback on the effectiveness of the Statistical Process Control tools.

Update Short Interval Control boards appropriately in assigned cell

Initiate and participate in Root Cause Investigations for assigned equipment and product as required.

Perform immediate response activities pertaining to production and quality concerns for the assigned work team.



Critical Skills Knowledge or Experiences

Ability to quickly and effectively solve complex mechanical assembly production issues. Use trouble shooting skills to resolve process related deviations and problems.

Demonstrated excellence in running all assigned Fabrication equipment.

Knowledge of pneumatics power and free conveyance systems servo motors are essential to this job.

Able to read Process Ladder Control Logic.

Analyze equipment data via instrumentation learned knowledgeexperience or Operator feedback to efficiently and effectively make machinery changes to improve production and quality.

Excellent interpersonal skills required to solve potential conflict issues within the work team and across other teams.

Use process knowledge and skills to make improvements in plant performance.

Uses Dow work processes and operating discipline. Contributes to building a professional documentation management system. Defines and applies appropriate procedures.

Uses specialized functional and technical knowledge educational background or experience to be a selfreliant achiever in the assigned role. Applies this knowledge when interacting with people and when performing alone.

Uses knowledge and skills in the areas of Environment Health and Safety to protect the interests of Dow the business and the work group. Assesses and minimizes risk communicates adequately about potential problems and issues.
