The University of Calgary opened its first overseas branch campus with generous financial support from the State of Qatar and began delivering undergraduate nursing programs in 2007. Student enrolment has steadily increased during the years, and now the University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ) offers several nursing education streams, including very recently a Master’s degree program.
We are currently seeking an Advisor, Human Resources, who will provide an HR generalist expertise, guidance and support to client groups, with emphasis on local employees and UCQ Senior Leadership Team.
The nature of work requires the management of complex and confidential HR issues and in some cases, conflicts that require direct involvement and resolution. This position is required to analyze a situation, identify what questions to ask, diagnose an issue, make recommendations, and consult with or assist other staff in either or both UCQ or main campus Human Resources. Work includes high volume, a wide range and variety of responsibilities, constant interruptions and multiple simultaneous deadlines and competing interests driven by internally and externally imposed deadlines and requirements.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
This position provides operational Human Resource services and generalist consulting services to support the values and strategic direction of UCQ, Human Resources and the University of Calgary as an institution.
Under the direction of the Director, Human Resources, advises, coordinates and administers the operational aspects of human resources processes within UCQ for assigned staff group (Academic, Local hire, Canadian hire, and Support Staff and MaPs), and ensures these processes are effectively planned, coordinated and communicated across the Faculty. This position makes recommendations regarding the development of policies, processes and systems that reflect and support the international environment of this faculty.
Provides consistent advice to clients on a range of human resources functions which include Onboarding and Off boarding, Contract renewals and extensions, Employee Relations in the context of both Canadian and Qatari laws and jurisdictions, Workplace Wellness, Talent Management (attraction and retention, organizational effectiveness, and learning and development), Total Rewards (compensation and recognition, and workforce planning and analytics).
This position is expected to support and back up the Advisor, International Recruiting, and HR Advisors assigned to other client groups.
